There is a giant rubber duck coming to Pittsburgh to hang out in the Allegheny River.  Random.  But also incredibly awesome.  (And lucky for him it’s not the Mon.)

This duck is a work of art by Florentijin Hofman.  It’s already hung out in rivers and harbors in faraway places like Osaka, Hong Kong, Sydney, Amsterdam, Sao Paolo, and Lommel, but Pittsburgh will be it’s first North American visit.  Supposedly it has healing powers.  Like word healing powers.  Endowed by some property in the duck itself.  I don’t know if I buy that.  I believe that it was created a symbol for world peace.  The artist said a rubber duck has no affiliation with politics or specific countries, so that’s why it was chosen.  Regardless of what mystical powers it may or may not have, IT LOOKS PRETTY FREAKING COOL.

The duck makes it’s debut September 27th.  Where is kind of hazy.  Some report the West End Bridge.  Some say the Sixth Street Bridge.  I’ve even heard about a free party on the Clemente Bridge.  Wherever it is, viewing it is free, and sure to be quite the experience.

That is awesome! I wish I could be there to see it too 🙂 And in reference to your post below with ideas from your finance, I love it! You should continue to write about his ideas, they’re hilarious and remind of my ideas from my friends.

Are we sure this isn’t some sort of You Gotta Regata, Anything that Floats Race hubabaloo?

The duck sounds awesome and if we get a peaceful resolution in Syria, I’m citing the duck.

    Cool story! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it’s actually a part of Pittsburgh’s annual International Festival of Firsts. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust lobbied to get it here!

That’s so cool that the duck is visiting nearby! I’ve seen stories about it before and thought it was really cute. Maybe it will visit just a little bit further North soon.
