Frugal Cooking 202

The other day I found a rogue bag of chocolate chips in our cabinet.  They were a couple months past their “best by” date.  So I did a little research, and apparently there’s no health hazard in using them after the big day’s come and gone.  After that date they do start to lose their flavor, though.  You can bring that flavor back out by cooking or baking them, so we had a chocolate chip pancake brunch.

This is the serving plate….much more than one serving.

There is no real recipe.  I’m not going to lie; I don’t make pancakes from scratch.  So if you want to make chocolate chip pancakes, I’d advise following the instructions on the box then adding chocolate chips to taste. 😉

Absolutely. I’ve never had a need to see if chocolate chips were one of them, but now that I have, I’m glad they are!

And it’s a once in a while treat. 🙂 It’s kind of funny how a lot of breakfast foods are desserts in themselves. Scones, donuts, french toast, cinnamon rolls….it’s all about moderation.
