My journey into freelance writing has been a slow one. I started off with a blog where I wrote to help people find ways to save and make money. Slowly, that blog started making money. Then it started making more money. Then I started writing for other sites on the internet.
Now my freelancing efforts provide the majority of our household income. Because this was a slow process, and one I didn’t necessarily embark on with the intention of starting a business, there was a lot to learn along the way. When did my business start being a business and stop being a hobby in the eyes of the IRS? How was I supposed to structure everything…sole proprietorship, LLC…what the heck is an S Corp, anyways?
I eventually found the answers to most of my questions, but they weren’t all in one place. That was massively inconvenient.
The Answers…All in One Place!
I’m not the only one who has struggled with this patchwork knowledge when it comes to freelancing. There are a lot of people out there who have business ideas, but don’t know how to make everything legit.
With that in mind, a Pittsburgh co-working space and consulting business, Whetstone Workgroup, has put together this awesome workshop just for freelancers! Here are the deets:
When: April 1, 2016
Where: The Union Project in Sharpsburg
These are all the awesome things that will be happening:
- Freelancers Panel
- Vision Exercise for a meaningful business and personal life
- Special speakers on legal and accounting concerns
- Insurance Issues
- Utilizing tech, social media, WordPress and design for for freelancers
I’m so excited for this. The great thing is that the workshop really is for everyone. You don’t have to be a freelance writer/editor like me. You could be a freelance accountant, a freelance consultant, or any other thing under the sun where you’d be working for yourself.
You also don’t have to be new to the game. My journey started five years ago, and there’s still so much I have to learn. I see so many opportunities to get some of my questions answered on April 1st.
